What Aurora is

Aurora brings live launch tracking, an augmented-reality sky map, ISS pass predictions, meteor showers, eclipses and clear space news into one place — on the web and as an Android app. It's built for the curious: no accounts, no clutter, just the sky and the machines we send into it.

Who makes it

Aurora is made by Cam — founder & developer. A software developer and lifelong space enthusiast who built Aurora to make spaceflight and the night sky legible to everyone. It's an independent project, not affiliated with any space agency or launch provider.

Where the data comes from

Aurora stands on excellent open data. Everything you see is sourced from and credited to:

• The Space Devs — Launch Library 2 — Launch, agency, vehicle, pad and event data
• Spaceflight News API — Space news, blogs and mission reports
• NASA — Imagery and mission reference
• NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center — Aurora / geomagnetic (Kp) forecasts
• CelesTrak — Satellite orbital elements (TLEs) for ISS passes

Accuracy & corrections

Launch times, orbits and visibility are computed from live third-party data and astronomical models, and they change — a launch can slip by hours or days. We surface times exactly as our sources report them and update continuously. Astronomy figures (rise/set, passes, phases) are computed with well-established libraries, but always defer to official agency sources for mission-critical timing. Spot something wrong?
